Introduction

You are in a perfect position right now! You will learn about the first rule of how to evoke your good, reliable and inexhaustible friend, your living space. Today we will give our full attention to an important principle for ensuring  the supply of potential energy for your home. This principle is: synchronise your living space with its existing environment.

The principle “synchronising your living space with characteristics of existing (immediate and even broader) environment” can be found in the core of every good advice, wherever you find some reliable know-how about DIY designing good and healthy living space.

By understanding this principle, you will better understand any given advice on arranging your living space, being one from the very old knowledge source or one from the latest discoveries of modern science.  And you will see and feel the big difference after employing this principle!

So keep reading, execute few small action steps given today and enjoy in wonder of positive changes, you will get to experience.

Living space is like a Sleeping Beauty

Every living space is like a Sleeping Beauty. When properly and gently awakened, it will become your tireless wisher. It will become your tireless energy supplier, your reliable source for your strength, health and harmonious life.

Understanding the principal

Let’s focus on understanding the simple logic of  “Synchronise your living space with it’s surroundings” first!

Your living space is just a small part of something bigger. It is a part of its immediate and even broader environment.

Being a unit (your living space) that is in harmony with greater whole (environment) is far better than being a unit, that is foreign and inconsistent part of its grater whole. Maybe in some other fields of our life it is not always so. But in environmental and ecological world, you must adopt to the bigger system. As far as possible. To live better or even just to survive.

For designing a good, healthy, most comfortable and energy-rich living space, it is far better to bland in than it is to stand out! It is a fact that seems a clearcut logic, but…

There are many examples of  “outstanding” designs! We can see them on every step, architecture that  ignores the immediate environment. Architecture that is trying to establish itself as the crown of creation, not taking into account the need for coherence with immediate landscape, climate or tradition. We can justifiably call this architecture OUTSTANDING.

And sadly, “outstanding” is many times even a common term of professionally praised creativeness!

We can see it on every step! Many, to many examples of  “outstanding” architecture!

Synchronise, run away from “outstanding”…

… if you want a good, healthy, most comfortable and energy-rich living space, you should design your living space to blend in with it’s surroundings! Synchronise as much as possible, to allow living space to be in harmony with its bigger and broader environment.

That is the most important rule! The first thing to allow the energy present around you, to flow undisturbed to you, that is to your living space!

… if you want a good, healthy, comfortable and energy-rich living space, you should design your living space to blend with it’s surroundings!

Make sure your living space would not feel like a thorn in the paw of a lion (lion, symbolising surroundings, that can be your friend, but also a very, very rough opponent)!

Now, the stunning positive results, synchronisation have on the inhabitants, is something you can and you will witness! Right away, as your own experience. That is immediately, after you choose to make some first small steps of implementation RECOMMENDED below!

How to start and implement the principle

FIRST STEP

Go out and take a beautiful, storytelling picture

Start with going out for a moment and photograph the building that protects and embraces your home. Concentrate on geting one or more photos showing entreance of your home house and as much as posiblle of its surroundings. Every thing that you see daily at approaching the space of your main entrance.

Do not worry if you live in a large multi-apartment block and can not affect the appearance of the main entrance. Make relevant photos of main entrance to your apartment and the neighbours entrances of the common hallway instead (than use the following advice bellow, for making the adjustment and synchronisation of your main entrance to your apartment with neighbours entrances in the common hallway).

 SECOND STEP

Analyse your situation

Now look at the your pictures. Get acquaint with your situation!

Look how much your living space is (or is not) connected with surroundings. Has your living space elements that define characteristics of its surroundings, its immediate or wider characteristics?

Can you tell by looking at your picture where you live? Are you living in Europe, near Alps or in Africa, near desert? Is your home situated in rural landscape or in extremely urban city-landscape?

Try to define which design elements enclosing your living space (if any) are sending a clear message or info, where your home building stands, where it is geographically located.

And by searching the elements of synchronisation with immediate or even wider location, that is with its physical characteristics, like landscape, climate, land use, vegetation etc. you certainly should look also for elements of metaphysical characteristics (history, culture), if present.

THIRD STEP

Analyse your situation action oriented

Now, we should do more action oriented analysis.

Inspect specifically tree elements that create and enable synchronisation with your location’s characteristics : (1) architecture, (2) vegetation and (3) decorating elements.

(1) architecture

Look at your pictures and inspect your home’s building. Look at its shape, roof incline, facade color, window style (shape, material and color) and the main entrance door (shape, material and color).

Ask yourself, is architecture of your building an element that is blending in or standing out in the direct neighbourhood? What about even broader urbanscape or landscape?

(1)1

Simple example story (invented) in pictures about using inappropriate facade color

Family of Mr. Colorescu has long lived in this village. But recently they moved away from this street to the little town, far, far away…

This is the new home town of family Colorescu. Can you find the small house restored and refreshed by the family, just before they moved in?

This is the memory photo of cityscape before family Colorescu moved in.

Two examples of architecture (this time not invented), not able to blend with surroundings.

See this architecture, an “alien” that is failing to blend in completely. It looks like “lounge” from the sky (or drawing board).

This architecture  failed to blend with immediate surroundings: the user crossing his inside and outside living space is always pushed in a clash between horizontal and vertical parts of design. There is no smooth interaction with the immediate environment, because there is no gradual transition between buildings verticals and outdoor horizontal part.

Rate your rough estimate between 1 and 10!

Now back to your picture! Make a rough estimate of a degree of synchronisation or degree of harmony between the architecture (with its additions) and the surroundings. Assess the architectural design harmony with your surroundings.

(2) vegetation

Now go and look at the picture once again and ask yourself, is vegetation blending in or standing out of the vegetational characteristics of your geographical location?

Standing out? Don’t! You do not want to stand out in the neighbourhood with vegetation!

(2)1

Simple example story (invented) about using inappropriate vegetation

Herr Strudel from Graz, Austria, had five fantastic business years. Consequently he was able to buy a small piece of land on an exotic island in the tropics. He decided to live on this dream island.

After two years, Herr Strudel got homesick. He therefore decided to work on supplementing missing “Austrian” vegetation on the island! He planted some beautiful pine trees! … and next year pine trees will be followed by pumpkins!

The use of “native” vegetation is crucial for abundant supply of energy to your home! By using vegetation alien to our living space environment, we reject the this potential of getting good beneficial energy supply.

You can damage your wellbeing by creating disharmonious living space situations by using too diversified (in their nature incompatible) plants!

Example of using inappropriate vegetation: construction of hedges with cypress, traditionally established plant for cemeteries, generates conflicts while mixing your living space with the cemetery symbolism.

Rate your rough estimate of succeeded plant synchronisation on your picture between 1 and 10!

Make a rough estimate of succeeded plant synchronisation. Is there a clear connection between vegetation present in your living space and its broader surrounding? Are there many conflicting foreign species (eg. palm trees, banana plants, cacti etc. in continental climate region) for ostentatious purposes? Are there (m)any plants in conflict with use of area they are planted in (eg. Plants with thorns in the entrance area)?

(3) decorating elements

Finally look at the picture and ask yourself if there are some decorating elements that are helping your living space to blend in. Or are there some, causing a detachment from cultural and historical characteristics that define your living space’s surroundings.

Look and find this cultural/historical objects that are in harmony or disharmony to the given tradition of your homeland. Find all elements that could be considered as traditional. Spot also all foreign deco elements.

(3)1

Simple example (invented) of using inappropriate deco elements

Don’t use foreign iconography. Better seize the opportunity and use the elements that are at home at specific location, historically and culturally. This is always a real opportunity for synchronisation, for strong integration with the environment in which we live.

Now rate your rough estimate of succeeded harmony between traditional/historical iconography  and everything that is actually added near your living space building on your picture between 1 and 10!

STEP FOUR

Synchronising (in just five final acts)

The everige number between all tree score points for (1) architecture, (2) vegetation and (3) decorating elements is your estimate correlation between your home appearance and the physical/metaphysical characteristics of the area in which you live. It is all you need, your perfect starting point to creation step.

Now start powerful synchronising of your living space. If you are sceptical, you wont be for long! Just follow the advice.

Few things you can do to “blend in”are more costly (like investing in new facade painting if your color situation is clearly the result of big misunderstanding (example(1)1). But in the majority of cases synchronising possibilities are in a low cost range. Among them now suggested: synchronisation with (1) vegetation and synchronisation with (2) decorating elements in just five final acts.

1. Bring in the design of your home only typical local/traditional vegetation

Find out and check what is the typical location/climate vegetation and/or typical neighbourhood/urban vegetation in your living space. Than invest some time/money to add as much as possible of this right (indigenous origin) vegetation too your living space.

Get your architecture “connected” by providing a growing embracement of proper vegetation

2. Place vegetation to exploits it’s harmonising and mitigation capabilities

Let me suggest a specially productive way you can use to even upgrade the power of choosing the right vegetation: place this vegetation on critical edges between vertical and horizontal elements of your living space and/or between inside and outside world of your living space. This is everywhere where contact between inside/outside living space occur. From the place near windows to the places near doors. Everywhere where build vertical structures and gardens horizontal grounds are usually a place of tense encounter of two worlds.

In this places you should synchronise this difference, you should calm the tensions between this two worlds. With the use of vegetation you can connect and unite this worlds on the edge.

3. Set up representatives of the same plant species near edges in your living space! On both sides of the edge and near to each other

Place same vegetation species on both sides of your living space. Inside and outside. Place them near the edge between the vertical and horizontal part of living space. Place it near to each other, so they can communicate with each other. This will open the friendly dialog between this vegetation species and bring together, integrate and synchronise at the same time the tension on the edge between two worlds: vertical/horizontal and/or inside/outside.

With the smart placement of vegetation (even if its is not the proper one), we can calm the tensions between vertical and horizontal part of living space and between inside and outside living.

Conflicting edge between vertical house and its horizontal ground (lefthand picture) is synchronised with smart placement of vegetation (righthand picture).

As a result the building is more connected with surroundings, seems less toll and is offering smooth transition between inside and outside living space.

Now that the potential capabilities of vegetation are outlined, I am sure you will find many ways to create some wonderfull activity steps of synchronising your home with vegetation. Act now! Do that!  … play with as many lucid ways for optimal selection of plants and the placement of those plants.

Finally let’s focus further on synchronisation with the cheapest and quickest way to get in harmony with your surroundings: optimising your connections with tradition/culture of the site, using proper decor elements!

Let everybody know that you are connected with the culture, tradition and history of your surroundings.

4. Find decorating elements of your existing local culture

First, invest some time to explore the history and tradition connected with your surroundings. I suggest strongly that you also take an exploratory walk in your neighbourhood for this reason.

Figure out as much as possible about how the image of your cultural, traditional and historical facts is present in your surroundings. Who of your neighbours and which public buildings (and in which noticeable way) are sending and protecting the information about tradition and culture present in the part of the world you are living in. Which are the typical decorating elements that lets you know exactly in which tradition lyes your homeland.

5. Put away any misleading foreign elements, bring in the local elements

Now start to act! Put away, if you can, any misleading elements! Are there any Buddhas, Japanese garden elements, Indian or ancient Egyptian culture elements that are bringing confusion about where we are? Put them away!

Then bring some new typical representatives of existing local cultural/traditional originality. As many as necessary for getting correct picture of originality, even if you could not get read of some exotic element.

Convince yourself visually (and everybody else) on where your living space is. Live no doubt about culture/history, your living space is a respectfull part of.

Bring only locally rooted  “traditional world”  into your outside living space and inside your home. Do it in a smart way, to blurr the boundary between inside and outside.

THE END

You got some detailed instructions on how to start and implement the principle of synchronising your living space with its existing environment! Implementing them will bring abundance of fresh beneficial energy. To you, for you, from your friend, your living space.

… if you want a good, healthy, comfortable and energy-rich living space, you should design your living space to blend with it’s surroundings!

Make sure your living space would not feel like a thorn in the paw of a lion !

I am sure you will be strongly tempted (motivated by positive results you will get to feel) to continue the never finished fun of traveling the journey toward harmony of your living space with it’s bigger picture. Also by rereading the older blogs and following the new ones you will get many other simple and low cost advices on how to synchronise your living space even more. The dialog with your living space seams simple. It is simple in deed, if you know how to do it. But don’t underestimate the power of it. Do todays suggested steps and conquer your problems in a very elegant, powerful and fun way.

Enjoy the process and the results!

They are destroying our children!

They are destroying our children!

From 17 to 18 April 2015 an International Conference – Challenges of modern pedagogy, is organized in Ljubljana by the Slovene Institute for the Development of Waldorf schools and kindergartens, Ljubljana.

I regret that this event was not accompanied by all mothers, fathers, grandfathers, grandmothers, even brothers or sisters …

I will highlight one particular problem, exposed at the conference. A very serious problem: the pressures of consumer society on children’s education.

Finally I will offer an effective “defense” assistance from the field of designing residential living space, a specific advice for opposing the silly trend of separating the girls and the boys.

Horror of marketing approach

baby-ads1

Prominent conference speakers, David. L. Braley, Godi Keller, Martin Baker and famous Sue Palmer, brought auditorium attention to many anomalies and problems that today’s society brings upon adolescent population. Ga. Sue Palmer shocked with the latest statistics from the field. Above all, with many facts about the frightening implementation of marketing for a special vulnerable group: the children.

i75Qfolq4Mndp7H7EK8QsuqnF9E

It is a confirmed that small differences between the sexes of children do exist imidiately after birth. This quite surmountable differences are in fact more like a tendency. Girls for example show greater ability of empathise and identify the needs, desires and impulses of other beings. Boys, on the other hand, show greater interest and tendency toward structural-systematic components of the world, machinery, techical equipment, mechanics (Godi Keller describes humorously this tendency of boys, which he noticed also at his grandchildren: “… whenever my grandson sees anything like a machine, he starts to hyperventilate!”).

The creepy facts of exploitative incitement of these differences by marketing industry where exposed by Sue Palmer. She confronted the conference audiences with them under headlines like “Pink Princess, Perfect girl syndrome …”.

She highlighted the systematic destruction of children by the consumer society, before the eyes of parents, and the unequal fight of huge capital investors, skillfuly “stealing” children and “swallowing” them in their earning tracks by inciting impulses addressing gender differences.

Screen-shot-2010-09-21-at-7.22.26-PM

Marketing is consciously and systematically building differences between the sexes. In their rude interest in earnings, it paralyses the naturally given ability of noticed gender differences to disappear in the interest of society.

We can oppose!

But here we can also oppose! We can add our living space design contribution to the fight against the ruthless marketing machine of type “Barbie – Ken”.

TSHV-Barbie-and-Ken

Pressure for creating living space!

When we create our own home, we are also the victims of commercials, magazines and brochures, that show us how the appropriate furnishing of our apartments should look, what to purchase to get the right living space for our happy life. And that also includes design impulses to create children’s room on the ground of separation between the sexes.

Consumer sociaty dictate that girls should get a room full of pink-reddish shades, dolls, stuffed animals, especially delicate lace content etc. On the other hand, the room for boys should include items like planes, planets, rockets, dinosaurs, soldiers , trucks, etc., of course all in blueish colors.

Desain-Kamar-Tidur-Anak-Perempuan-Sederhana1

The above examples show completely wrong design path. The path of separation and upgrading at start small differences betwen newborns.

The right way of creating the ambience for children

The right way is to create a child’s living space that alter the initial tendency of separation.

It is extremely important that the newborn’s room has many colourful items, shapes and materials for both gender poles. Equally represented, abundantly rich and attractive to look at, touch, smell at and possibly even sound responsive (example below).

12-colorful-kids-bedroom-render

Colourful, diverse, materially abundant children’s room is a must in the most intense period of the child’s learning period of 0-7 years, also crucial time for child’s familiarisation with the world.

At the same time, please fill any child’s room with the most valuable component, which can be found in this space of his:

Be smart! Protect your living when confronted with good design!

Quoted ArchiExpo e-magazine is one of many possible starting points to explore what is new in furnishing design at iSaloni. Many will even go to iSaloni Milano 2015.

By exploring iSaloni please consider this: we use furnishings for our life, to evoke and to support our (desired) way of living. And when deciding what to choose (confronted with good design) we have to focus on a very important question: Can what we see support our desired way of living?

Don’t see just good design! See the life that this pleasing design can (or can’t) bring in to your living space!

prodotti-132252-reld644be0e450649b580614b66f5abf170

On the photo you see great design of USM (also present on iSaloni Milano 2015). But if you want (and you do want!) a cozy eating area (witch is most of the time the focal living spot for the family), you may not be satisfied with this furniture, althought comming from a very good design company.

We are not opposing the design on the photo, but we can ensure you, that such furnishing adds stress (and some kind of Mcdonald’s spirit) to normal living. Shiny surfaces, chrome, clean purified lines…

Your (if desired) cozy living has almost no chance in that kind of space, with all the respect for the design!

Be smart and protect your living when confronted with good design!
